Jennifer Aniston has reconnected with one of her Friends co-stars after nearly three decades, and the reunion is wonderful.
The 54-year-old actress, who portrayed Rachel Green in the classic comedy from 1994 to 2004, couldn’t believe it when she reconnected with 34-year-old actress Mae Whitman in December 1996, 27 years later.
Mae was only eight years old when she featured in The One Where Rachel Quits, a season three episode, as Girl Scout Sarah, who is knocked down a flight of stairs by Ross Geller, who is, of course, portrayed by recent Bake Off star David Schwimmer.
The synopsis for the classic episode reads: ‘Ross accidentally breaks a little girl’s leg and tries to help her sell boxes of cookies which re-creates Monica’s childhood fixation.
‘Rachel quits her job at Central Perk and Joey’s Christmas tree selling conflicts with Phoebe’s principles.’
Meeting Jennifer nearly 30 years on during an episode of Live With Kelly and Ryan, she said: ‘I was on Friends. I played the girl that gets knocked down the stairs with the Girl Scout cookies.’
Jennifer grabbed her arms and replied: ‘Oh my God!’
Mae added: ‘I just wanted to say hi because you were so kind to me. It was my favorite show and you really made me feel like I was a part of the cast. And you were so kind and you hugged me. Thank you. It’s always stayed with me.’
‘I’m so glad you’re good,’ Jennifer responded, and Mae said: ‘It’s so nice to see you. You’re amazing.’
Mae then explained to Kelly and Ryan: ‘I’m 8 years old, I think. And I got a call that I was cast on Friends, and it was my favourite show at the time. Why an eight-year-old loved Friends, I can’t tell you, but I found something relatable in there.
‘And I remember Jen was so kind to me, she made me feel like I was part of the cast and she took such good care of me, and I wept hysterically when I wrapped.’
She continued: ‘And I made her a Christmas ornament with her name on it. That was the first time I’ve seen her. That was a big reunion. That felt amazing to see her. She’s so cool. Such a cool person. The universe has its ways.’
Before Friends, Mae had appeared as Casey Green in 1994’s When A Man Loves A Woman, going onto work on the likes of Bye Bye Love, Degree of Guilt, Independence Day, One Fine Day, Hope Floats and 2003’s The Jungle Book.
On Instagram, she posted images of the reunion as well as herself as the Girl Scout and showered additional love on Jennifer.
She wrote: ‘Had the genuine best time doing @livekellyandryan promoting @uphereonhulu -truly love all my dear pals there on screen and off- and the coolest part was I had a Friends reunion with the luminous @jenniferaniston whom I remember made me feel so welcomed and loved and I wept hysterically when I wrapped the episode and made her a Christmas ornament’.
