Jay Blades, star of The Repair Shop, has spoken up about his connection with his father and revealed that he has at least 27 siblings.
In a recent interview, the furniture restorer spoke to former Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews about his origins, including ‘the man who contributed to my birth’.
The 53-year-old stated that he had only talked to his father four times in his life, with the guy entering his life when he was five and again when he was 21.
‘I knew I had more brothers and sisters. When I went to London with him and met the person he was living with, there was four that was there, four brothers and sisters. I said to him, I know there’s more,’ he said.
‘I remember meeting a sister that was older than me when I was five.’
While his father insisted that there weren’t, Jay recollected on the Big Fish with Spencer Matthews podcast how his half-sister then called him up to confirm his suspicions.
‘The half-sister rang me and said there is more, there’s loads more. 25. 25 brothers and sisters. That’s just in this country,’ he stated.
‘There’s some in Jamaica and there’s some in America as well. I think he used to be a rabbit.’
Jay has met 11 of his siblings, but there are more brothers and sisters he has yet to meet.
He added that since being on TV and finding fame on The Repair Shop, ‘more came out the woodwork’.
‘A lot of them don’t want to be found, don’t want to feel connected to his dad. Some feel proud. I have a real problem with him,’ he stressed.
During a phone call with Jay’s father, the guy stated that he was solely responsible for his son’s achievement.
In response, Jay told him: ‘You have taught me how not to be a father, and I can thank you for that.’
During their final talk, the TV celebrity phoned his father to confirm whether four persons who claimed to be his brothers were in fact connected to him.
His father said that two of them were lying and two of them were not, bringing his sibling count to at least 27.
Jay recently attended King Charles III’s coronation after appearing alongside the king on a special edition of The Repair Shop to commemorate the BBC’s centennial.
