Interior Design Masters winner Monika Charchula has received ‘lots of messages from fans’ after showing vulnerability by sharing impact of ADHD

Monika Charchula, the winner of Interior Design Masters 2023, has plenty to be proud of after an outstanding progression in the competition, producing a brilliant pub design replete with a gorgeous copper-gilded bar in the final.

Fans of the BBC show have found her openness to be candid about the impact ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) has on her life to be an inspiration.

The second day of the three-day challenge in the show’s final saw Monika, 32, cry as she battled to manage the stress of the work, while competing against Jack Kinsey, 27, for a life-changing commission.

The furniture artist told Metro.co.uk that she’s’struggled’ with time management throughout the process, which she describes as ‘part of her’.

‘I have ADHD and being an organised person doesn’t come easy for me,’ she outlined.

‘Having this massive space and so many people – I think that was also something that was really stressful for me, having so many people that I have to tell what to do and have everything organised. That was incredibly stressful for me.’

She continued: ‘I had a moment where it all became a bit too real and I had a small meltdown. But then I had a good night’s sleep and I had breakfast and I just told myself, “I can do it.” Throughout the whole series, I’ve proven that I can actually finish on time. So I just thought, “This is my final push,” and yeah – I just did it.’

Monika stated that she has’received a lot of messages’ from other people with ADHD and parents of children with the disease, who have informed her that ‘it’s really nice’ that it’s being discussed on TV.

‘They see a lot of resemblances in what I’m doing, the stresses and the crying. Being emotional is also unfortunately one of the things – it gets to the point where it just becomes overwhelming and the only way for me and for a lot of other people with ADHD to get rid of all the stresses is to unfortunately have a meltdown,’ she said.

Monika, on the other hand, claimed that having ADHD has ‘helped her creativity’ in her employment as an interior designer since she comes up ‘with a lot of ideas on the spot’ because her ‘brain is working non-stop’.

Monika’s devotion to totally coating the bar of the pub with a copper shine was one of the most difficult obstacles she had in the Interior Design Masters final, a challenging effort that was ‘absolutely worth it’ in the end for the outstanding completed product.

Monika feels ‘extremely pleased’ of the tavern and believes that ‘everything was exactly how it was intended to be’ in retrospect, having created it last year while the programme was being filmed.

Fortunately (and unexpectedly), those in charge of the bar enjoyed what she accomplished with the space, with the only change being to relocate the DJ booth for sound reasons.

Monika had intended to have the big contract she earned as her prize for winning Interior Design Masters done in time for the final, but she’s spending a few extra days putting the finishing touches on it.

She told Metro.co.uk on the day the show’s finale aired on BBC One: ‘We should probably be completed next week, and I am extremely excited, quite proud, and really looking forward to having a drink.’

Speaking of beverages, she and the rest of the cast of the 2023 season gathered for a watching party at the tavern she created to watch the final as it broadcast on BBC One.

Monika has been quite busy in several aspects of her life since shooting concluded, including relocating to a new city, beginning a new relationship, and beginning a new work.

We can’t wait to see her popularity continue to soar in the world of interior design!

Interior Design Masters is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
