It’s been four years since Luther fans last saw Idris Elba as the tough detective, but he’s returning with a bang for his new Netflix film.
Luther: The Fallen Sun follows John Luther as he escapes from jail to atone for his mistakes in the past, making him an enemy of tech magnate David Robey (Andy Serkis).
The main character is well-known for his grey trench coat, which he has worn for over a decade.
So, when Metro.co.uk met up with the lead actor at the film’s London premiere, we had to question if the coat had gotten a little worse for wear over the years.
While fans may have imagined there was just one Luther cloak stashed away, Idris informed us that there are more… As a result, there is little risk of it getting stinky.
‘Nooo! You know what, it does get washed but there’s more than one in the wardrobe. So I dry clean one and then I wear the other one,’ the 50-year-old said.
‘People always say to me, “Does that thing stink?” It doesn’t smell I promise,’ he added. Another Luther mystery solved!
Idris changed out of Luther’s grey coat for a suave purple ensemble on the red carpet, standing beside his scene partner Cynthia Erivo, who looked stunning in silver, and his wife Sabrina Elba, who wore an amazing black gown.
Andor celebrity Andy wore a peacock-patterned green jacket over his black outfit.
Cynthia is renowned for going for a bold red carpet style, and her Louis Vuitton fishtail design did not disappoint tonight.
‘Haunted by his inability to arrest the cyber maniac who now taunts him, Luther intends to get out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary,’ according to the description for Luther: The Fallen Sun.
Cynthia plays Odette Raine, a competing investigator and Luther’s antagonist in Wicked.
In the trailer, Odette was on the lookout for Luther, while Serkis’ character trailed him menacingly on Surveillance cameras.
Luther: The Fallen Sun is available in select cinemas and arrives on Netflix from March 10.
