Ant and Dec are one of ITV’s biggest success stories, with the legendary presenting team attracting millions of viewers on shows like I’m A Celebrity and Saturday Night Takeaway.
However, their hit gameshow Ant and Dec‘s Limitless triumph nearly produced a financial nightmare for TV executives.
The popular show debuted in January 2022 and features pairs of competitors constructing a cash reward by properly answering number-based questions, with assistance from the hosts.
The potentially catastrophic element in the game is that competitors can keep continuing to earn more and more money if they don’t make a mistake on the cash building ladder.
This almost caused a problem for ITV, since Geordie boys Ant and Dec have recently disclosed that in the next new series, one participant would earn a whopping sum in the show’s history.
Asked if there were concerns about bankrupting ITV, Ant confessed: ‘In a word… yes.
‘We’ve had more people climb up the ladder than ever before and this series sees the biggest win in the show’s history.’
Dec added: ‘There were a lot of accountants around the studio looking even greyer than normal.’
According to MailOnline, the grand prize is a cool £1 million, which is more than twice the previous record of £500,000 earned by participants Katherine and Will in season one.
Although several players have come close, such as Kye and Lee in series one, who almost missed out on the whole million-dollar prize, this will be the first time anyone on Limitless Win has done it.
Ant and Dec‘s Limitless victory, often compared to ITV’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire for its nail-biting structure and cash-builder approach, as well as the opportunity of a seven-figure victory, will return to ITV on January 6.
The new series will undoubtedly amaze fans as Ant reacts to candidates in even more outrageous ways than previously.
‘We get so carried away,’ Dec said. ‘We’re just so invested in every couple that play the game. You can’t help but become emotional for them during each game.’
Ant added: ‘In fact, I actually jumped on the desk this series!’
Dec revealed Ant ‘got told off for that’ and added that his co-host ‘nearly broke the desk’.
He also teased that it’s ‘safe to say, it’s a groundbreaking series in more ways than
one.’
Ant and Dec have recently returned to the UK for the holidays, following another season of I’m A Celebrity in Australia, which saw Made in Chelsea actor Sam Thompson elected King of the Jungle.
Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win series 3 will start Saturday January 6 on ITV1 and ITVX
