Season two of House of the Dragon is rumoured to be wrapping up, with one of the show’s actors confirming that his time on the set has come to an end.
The precursor to Game of Thrones began in August 2022 and kept the Westeros flame blazing with ten dramatic episodes.
The first season, set across 30 years and featuring lauded performances from Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy, created the groundwork for a civil war.
Despite the continuing Hollywood Sag-Aftra strikes, some loopholes permitted House of the Dragon to continue production and strive for a summer 2024 premiere.
Now, a major cast member has disclosed that the new episodes have officially ended production, with Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) confirming the news on social media.
The actor shared a collection of non-spoiler photographs he was able to sneak while working on set over the previous several months on Instagram.
He added a kind remark on a photo of his trailer, a brief backstage selfie and the sun rising in the distant on a lovely morning.
‘What a pleasure to work with such wonderful individuals!’ It’s now in the hands of editors, SFX artists, and whatever else is needed. I hope you enjoy it when you finally get to see it!’
Season one director Clare Kilner, who oversaw production on a few episodes, replied in the comments with clapping and fire emojis.
While HBO is yet to release official word, Variety has reported that season two recently wrapped production.
Filming for the series began in the spring of 2023, so by the time season two premieres, it will have been in production for about a year.
The second season will only have eight episodes, as compared to the previous season’s ten, as the battle in Westeros escalates once again.
With King Viserys no longer alive, his wife Alicent Hightower and his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen vie for control of the continent.
The first season has been nominated for an Emmy in the category of outstanding drama series, with the show expected to find out its destiny in January 2024.
Last month, images from the season two set surfaced, showing actors staging a gory and furious combat in the countryside.
