Holly Willoughby has returned to This Morning, and fans were taken aback by her strange re-introduction.
The ITV show’s ensemble broke into song with a Mamma Mia mash-up in a fever dream opener, leading up to the presenter’s reappearance.
The 42-year-old has been off the air for two months for a summer holiday, after the departure of longtime co-star Phillip Schofield.
She teased the end of her hiatus with a well-timed appearance on Midsomer Murders, which received mixed reactions from sceptics.
Holly stepped out to Dancing Queen with co-host Alison Hammond, singing along and shimmying while her This Morning co-stars danced around her.
Viewers were perplexed by the musical spectacular, which featured both London West End singers and other presenters singing and dancing.
Abba favourites such as SOS and Take a Chance were performed before the much-anticipated return of Holly.
While the presenters were clearly having a good time, other viewers were less delighted, calling it ‘cringe’ and ‘hellish’.
Holly and Alison had a giggle, both admitting they were ‘out of breath’ when they got in the studio, having ‘sprinted’ from the Mamma Mia stage.
She seemed upbeat as the two giggled about ‘Holly’s balls,’ evidently enjoying the ridiculous entrance.
Fans were not than thrilled, going to X (previously Twitter) to voice their astonishment and outright displeasure with the perplexing choice.
‘This is it, we’ve reached peak cringe,’ wrote one viewer, while another said: ‘It’s 10am, we don’t need a musical.’
A third added: ‘What on earth is this fresh hell??’
One viewer scathed: ‘If there’s a more cringe inducing show than #ThisMorning I’d like to know.’
People chuckled that James Martin wasn’t ‘getting paid enough’ when he appeared.
Gyles Brandreth’s attire, on the other hand, received a lot of attention, with some inquiring whether he was a “extra in Barbie.”
Some did like the unusual entrance, with one remarking, ‘Am I the only one that likes this?’
According to the internet, they were the only ones who loved that fever dream.
This Morning airs at 10am every weekday on ITV.
