Holly Willoughby has made a mysterious Instagram picture about ‘talking to a buddy’ amid the Phillip Schofield turmoil.
Schofield, 61, left This Morning amid accusations that he and Holly were ‘barely communicating’ behind the scenes and that their relationship had cooled, despite his insistence that they were still ‘best friends’ at the time.
Days later, he resigned from all of his ITV projects, including hosting the British Soap Awards, after revealing on This Morning that he had a ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a young male show runner while still married to Stephanie Lowe, which he claimed he lied about to his agency, colleagues, and ITV.
Willoughby, 42, issued her own message on social media shortly after his shocking disclosure, stating she was ‘sad’ to have been ‘lied’ to.
Schofield later issued an apology as he addressed the scandal for the first time in an interview with The Sun, in which he said: ‘I’ve lost my best friend. I let her down (Holly). I let that entire show down. I let the viewers down.’
Holly has shared a strange message on Instagram after returning to This Morning this week.
‘Congratulations to @drzoewilliams on the publishing of her book for girls…’ Holly commented, referring to a new book by This Morning regular Dr Zoe Williams. incredibly informative and full of really useful information…’
‘It’s like chatting to a buddy,’ she says.
On Monday, she appeared on This Morning with Josie Gibson, starting the broadcast with a public statement: ‘Right, deep breath. First and foremost, are you okay? I certainly hope so. It’s extremely odd sitting here without Phil.’
She continued: ‘I imagine that you might have been feeling a lot like I have – shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the wellbeing of people on all sides of what’s been going on and full of questions.
‘You me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved. That is a lot to process.’
Willoughby rushed to Instagram stories after Schofield’s shocking confession to declare, ‘It’s taken time to comprehend yesterday’s news. When I initially heard about this relationship, I asked Phil directly whether it was true, and he said no.
‘It’s been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie. Holly.’
It has subsequently been claimed that Willoughby would not raise Schofield’s infidelity again following her statement on Monday’s This Morning.
An insider shared: ‘This is the only time Holly will ever speak about Phil and what has happened.
‘She still feels incredibly angry and upset by his actions and is very much still trying to get her head around it.
‘It took a lot for Holly to compose herself and speak about what has gone on in the last few weeks. But people expecting her to sit and pour her heart out will be waiting for a long time,’ they added to The Sun.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
