Holly Willoughby only allowed herself ‘half a glass of prosecco’ at the National Television Awards because she was afraid she might need to use the loo.
The 42-year-old This Morning anchor was attending the event without co-host Phillip Schofield, 61, for the first time, but managed to brush off any awkward moments after the audience booed the show at one point.
However, it now appears that her attention was diverted elsewhere after Holly stated that she was little concerned about wanting to use the loo.
On ITV’s morning show the next day, Holly explained why she didn’t drink too much to co-host Craig Doyle about their resolve to ‘not hit it too hard’ at the event.
‘I loved my dress last night and I love getting dressed up and all glammed up, but the problem with the dress is that it was a bit wiggly around the old thighs,’ she explained.
‘So I had to go for a pee in the hotel, sorry for sharing so much right now but I am going to tell the truth, but I couldn’t pull it up to go for a pee and I was also tied in so tightly so nothing fell out of the top that I couldn’t pull it down and so I had to go in the hotel…and that was it.
‘It wasn’t until I was getting home from the O2, about five or six hours, [that I knew I couldn’t go again], so I only had about half a glass of prosecco.’
Poking fun at the anecdote, Craig told Holly to ‘wait until you hit your 50s’, explaining she wouldn’t be able to go ’10 minutes without needing a pee’.
However, he did tell Holly she ‘looked amazing’, as did all of their This Morning colleagues.
‘It was just a really great positive night,’ he added.
After the event Holly shared a snap from her journey home, digging into a late-night McDonald’s, writing: ‘Say (quarter pounder with) CHEESE.’
Holly stated that the previous year had been ‘up and down’ on the red carpet at the NTAs.
While speaking to The Sun she said: ‘It has been a difficult year for everybody but what’s lovely is you find that people rally around you and the goodwill is there.
‘People want things to move on. It feels different.’
Earlier this year, Phillip, quit the show and then stepped away from ITV altogether after he admitted to lying about an affair that he had with a younger colleague to his coworkers and loved ones.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1. The National Television Awards is streaming on ITVX.
