After her daughter’s health crisis, Hoda Kotb has taken a week off from the Today programme to spend spring break with her family.
The 58-year-old recently raised eyebrows with her absence from the morning show, which she subsequently said was due to her three-year-old daughter Hope being taken to the hospital.
She is currently focusing on Hope and her eldest daughter Haley, whom she shares with ex Joel Schiffman.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Savannah Guthrie declared on Tuesday’s episode that she was “on holiday,” with Craig Melvin taking her place in the hot seat.
Jenna Bush Hager is also on holiday with her family, therefore pre-recorded episodes of Jenna and Hoda will continue for the next few days.
Last month, the presenter was noticeably absent from our screens for two weeks, leaving fans concerned about her disappearance.
When Hoda returned to the studio in early March, she explained the reason for her lengthy absence and discussed her youngest daughter’s health difficulties.
‘My youngest, Hope, was in the ICU for a few days, and in the hospital for a little more than a week,’ she told viewers in an emotional segment.
‘I’m so grateful she’s home, she is back home. I was waiting for that day to come, and we are watching her closely. I’m just so happy.
‘I’m grateful for the doctors at Weill Cornell who were amazing and the nurses. And I’m grateful for my family and I’m grateful to friends like you who were there every single day. So, I want to say thank you for that. I love you.’
Jamie Lee Curtis was one renowned face that reached out to the anchor, and she stepped in to help the family in their time of need.
Hoda and Savannah got up with the Oscar winner after her big night in LA last week, and the conversation drifted to a present she had sent over.
‘I was opening packages in my apartment last night, all the Amazon stuff that you get, and Jamie Lee, I opened a package and inside I saw two teddy bears and a beautiful My hand In Yours that you had given to my girls,’ she said, referencing the Everything Everywhere All At Once star’s charity, which raises money for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
‘I thought to myself, “In the middle of her shining moment in her life, she is sending something to me and my kids”.
‘And I can’t tell you how touching and how beautiful I thought that was. And I just wanted to say thank you.’
Jamie Lee insisted that she didn’t think twice before reaching out with the poignant package, adding: ‘You’re welcome! Listen, I get it. It’s the hardest thing in the world. There’s nothing scarier in the world than a sick kid,’ she replied.
‘That is why I made My Hand In Yours and that’s why I support Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, as you support your children’s hospital.
‘This is what we do, this is what they do 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. They show up for your family.
‘So, I was simply showing up for yours in the way I could.’
