Call The Midwife star Helen George has revealed she will be part of the upcoming 12th series of the BBC drama after making a temporary exit last year.
The long-running series, written by Heidi Thomas, has been on for over a decade – with plenty of faces waving goodbye in that time.
One person who’s remained pretty much consistent in Nonnatus House is nurse Trixie Franklin (Helen George), who is a favourite of viewers.
However, she made an exit in series 11 to go and care for her sick godmother in Italy, to coincide with actress Helen having her second child.
But on Tuesday, Helen confirmed she would be making her return in upcoming episodes as the cast shared pictures from filming.
‘NEWS! Trixie’s back! @helen_george makes her return to #CallTheMidwife Series 12 filming,’ a tweet read from the official account, with a picture of Helen beaming in costume.
Fans were buzzing to see her back filming and remained hopeful of Trixie’s potential relationship with close friend Matthew Aylward (Olly Rix).
One viewer wrote on Twitter: ‘Please now let her have her happy ending with Matthew!’
Another said: ‘Look who’s back !!! I cannot wait to see the gorgeous Helen back wonder if she’ll be Trixie Aylward ???’
‘Wouldn’t be the same without Trixie. Welcome back,’ added a fan.
The show’s post continued to tease what fans could expect from her comeback: ‘Our first week of filming the brand new Series 12 involves both day and night shooting – and guess who made a welcome return to Nonnatus house last night for her first scene … Trixie!
‘Played of course by our lovely Helen George xxx While Helen has been away she’s had a little ‘midwife calling’ of her own to do, as she is now the proud mother of two! Her gorgeous new daughter, Lark, was born late last year, and Helen is now ready to get back into the saddle of her bicycle to minister to the women of Poplar once more!’
The statement concluded: ‘We are thrilled to have her back, and just can’t wait to show you the next developments in Trixie’s journey…’
The show’s official account told viewers they were back filming once again on Tuesday morning, with a sweet clapperboard pic.
A tweet read: BREAKING NEWS!! Call the Midwife begins filming for Series 12! Hello all! WE’RE BACK!!! We bring you this picture straight from the Nonnatus House set, where our team began filming again just a few hours ago on a brand new Christmas Special and Series 12 of Call the midwife!

Co-star Stephen McGann, who plays Dr Turner in the midwife series, re-tweeted the picture adding: ‘Aaaaaand they’re off! xxx #CallTheMidwife #Series12.’
Helen welcomed another baby girl, Lark, in November 2021 with partner Jack Ashton, who used to star in the series himself.
The couple were already parents to daughter Wren, born in September 2017.
Call The Midwife returns later this year to BBC One.
