Harry Potter star Jessie Cave says new born son was ‘like a different baby’ when he had coronavirus

Harry Potter star Jessie Cave revealed the moment she knew something was wrong with her new born son, who was diagnosed with coronavirus two months after he was born.

The baby was tested positive for Covid-19 following his traumatic birth, with Jessie sharing details of his hospital stay on Instagram.

He was looked after by ‘vigilant and cautious’ NHS staff as the actress kept a diary of his daily feeds and tried to calm him by showing her son videos of coral reefs.

Days later he was allowed to return home where he has been settling back in comfortably.

Speaking on Lorraine on Tuesday, Jessie told parents ‘don’t wait’ if they suspect their child might be ill.

She said: ‘Trust your instincts. Within a day of realising he was just kind of changing a little bit, he wasn’t feeding as much and his cry was different, it was like a different baby. I just went to A and E.

‘Everyone has to be aware of a sudden change because it could have been a different story if we hadn’t gone in.

‘Everyone’s so scared understandably, but for children its not as overwhelming.

‘You have to be so quick to go in and don’t be scared of going in. They treated us so well. Just don’t wait.’

She also explained that her partner Alfie has the virus.

‘He has now got the virus. It’s just a weird delay. It’s such a strange illness and it affects everyone completely differently and so it’s completely affected our lives over this period of time. I can’t really imagine a normal day now.

‘He is ok, he’s doing much better now. It’s just bizarre how it didn’t affect me and it’s completely affected him. We know people who have had to go to hospital. It’s a lottery really. It can affect you and you never expected it.’

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
