Gregg Wallace believes there will be no other Celebrity MasterChef winner quite like the winner of the 2023 series.
Wynne Evans of Go Compare won the BBC competition on Friday night, beating out Love Island‘s Luca Bish and Emmerdale actress Amy Walsh.
During the finale, the three finalists had to serve a flawless three-course dinner to impress judges Gregg and John Torode, with the opera singer dazzling them sufficiently to earn the coveted winner’s title.
Following the outcome, Gregg outlined why he feels the performance was a one-time winner for the celebrity version of MasterChef, following in the footsteps of previous champions Lisa Snowdon, Greg Rutherford, and Phil Vickery.
‘Wynne gives us theatre. I have never seen a celebrity like him ever before and I’m not sure we ever will again,’ the TV presenter said.
Based on Wynne’s recent appearances on the programme, that sounds like an apt assessment of his abilities.
He started with a Carmarthen-Japanese sumo tuna tartare with avocado, edamame beans, and wasabi, accompanied by deep-fried cockle popcorn and a mango egg.
The main dish was Evans cannon of lamb bread served on samphire with wild garlic, porcini mushrooms and lamb rendered fried bread, with pomme dauphine and a fondant leek, finishing with a red wine and red currant sauce.
Finally, for dessert, he prepared Bara Brith with Caerphilly cheese and fig jam, which he served with brie ice cream and poached figs atop crumbled Bara Brith.
A spectacle if we ever saw one!

‘This is a brilliant feeling,’ he exclaimed after his win.
‘The kids will love this, they’ll be like, “Dad! I can’t believe you did it when all you cook for us is beans on toast!”
‘The experience has totally changed my life. It has just been beautiful and I can’t thank Gregg and John and everybody here at MasterChef enough.’
He continued: ‘When you start to believe in yourself, that’s when good things start to happen. I don’t know how a MasterChef winner celebrates but I know how a bloke from Carmarthen celebrates!’
Judge John added: ‘Every single dish tells a story. His food, it’s exciting, it’s ambitious, and it’s got a little bit of artistic flare. He’s a proud Welshman with a big heart.’
