Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars reached intense heights in tonight’s semi-finals where Leah, Steph, Valentina and Victoria were tasked in teams to impress the Michelin-starred chef.
He first challenged the remaining foodies with producing TikTok videos showing off vegan alternatives, before asking the contestants to plan and host their own live pasta masterclasses.
While vegan Valentina and social-media savvy Victoria won the first challenge, their teamwork during the second task left Gordon despaired.
When creating their menu and planning their unique pasta, the pair clashed, with Valentina walking out on Victoria and leaving her to continue their menu, which, with only one person left on a two-person team, ended in mistakes including guidance of using a whole red chili, instead of just a small portion.
Then, during their live masterclass, the two were talking over each other and disrupting the workshop, leading Gordon to choose Leah and Steph’s rockpool ravioli as the winning team.
When it came down to choosing which contestant from the losing team would remain in the competition and make it to next week’s final, Valentina and Victoria each faced a brutal grilling, resulting in Valentina being booted from the competition, despite a passionate fight to stay.
On her exit, Gordon said: ‘Valentina really did give it her all and to get this far shows what a strong contender she was, but if I’m investing in a business at this level then trust me they need to be the full package.
‘I now have three amazing finalists and they have one shot at a life-changing investment from me.’
Valentina, whose business idea involves vegan cake mixes, added: ‘I learnt so much from this experience. Of course I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to win, I wanted to win so much.’
Talking about what she learned from the experience, Valentina later shared: ‘I learnt a lot about myself and my limits whilst filming the show.
‘I like to learn as much as I can in life and will always try and make the most of any opportunity put my way,’ she said, explaining that the show provided her with much ‘food for thought.’
‘There were many challenges during the show – having to adjust to a new routine, getting to know lots of new people, working with a big crew and being far away from friends and family.’
She added: ‘I learnt that everyone is very different. People’s opinions aren’t the same but they are all equally valid.’
Now only three remain fighting for Gordon’s investment for their businesses.
Speaking about investing £150,000 of his own money to the winner of the series, Gordon told Metro.co.uk and other publications ahead of the series airing: ‘I don’t mind investing more with the right idea, the right person, so I’d like to see that as just the beginning of that investment.
‘And as you see the progress on the show and just the development of where we take their businesses, it’s pretty ground-breaking.
‘I think that £150,000 is just the start, I’d love to invest in more of those businesses, but there needs to be a winner for obvious reasons.’
Gordon added: ‘You could be one of the most talented chefs anywhere in the world but if you can’t run a business then you become a busy idiot, and what I tried to do with these businesses was stress-test them, put them through the pressure-test that every business needs, and then understand where their weaknesses were and try and create something more tangible than they thought they brought to the competition.’
