Good Morning Britain presenters Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid have been criticised for an interview with a woman who escaped a New York City apartment fire.
The overnight blaze killed 19 people – including nine children with one as young as four – as the city’s fire commissioner Daniel Nigro described the incident as one of the worst in recent memory.
Richard and Susanna discussed the news on Monday morning before speaking to Winter Thomas, 20, who escaped the fire from the ninth floor with her mother and siblings.
She had previously chatted to a reporter at the location of the fire and opened up about the horrific scenes as she saw people who had died as they left the apartment block.
She said: ‘I was sleeping and my little sister came in the room. She was screaming for me to help her and I didn’t know what to do.
‘I looked out the window and as soon as I turned my head to the window there were flames coming up my window, black smoke.’
