Ellie Warner of Gogglebox described her tumultuous nursing adventure, including a scary dash to the hospital after developing mastitis, in a comprehensive and honest essay.
The new mother stated that she was desperate to nurse her newborn son, but things did not go as planned, as she ended up in’so much agony’ due to a ruptured abscess.
Ellie revealed her pregnancy on Gogglebox last year before welcoming Ezra, whom she shares with Nat Eddleston, earlier this year.
She has been open about her parenthood experiences thus far, including posting intimate photos of her home delivery with her 490,000 followers.
In her most recent lengthy post, the 32-year-old explained that she was nursing Ezra, despite some problems.
Ellie confessed she ‘wasn’t sure’ if breastfeeding would be a possibility based on stories she had heard from other mums, making her ‘scared to be overconfident’.
While Ezra took ‘naturally’ to breastfeeding, a few weeks after his birth he started to experience ‘a lot of wind’ and Ellie got private treatment for his tongue tie.
‘By this point, I’d developed a blocked duct and tried various methods to clear it but nothing worked. Eventually, it turned into mastitis,’ the Gogglebox star wrote.
Mastitis is an infection-related inflammation of the breast tissue that causes pain, swelling, and fever-like symptoms.
Ellie continued: ‘I went to the GP who prescribed antibiotics but after 10 days, it turned into an abscess.
‘The morning that the abscess burst, I was in so much pain that I was crying. I was scared to feed off the affected boob and couldn’t get seen by my own GP.’
Luckily, she got an appointment with an out-of-hours GP and was sent to A&E, adding: ‘I was beside myself and in a lot of pain, but the consultant in A&E was kind and referred me to the breast clinic the next day.
‘I didn’t want this to be the end of my breastfeeding journey, as I wasn’t ready to stop. I was proud of what I’d achieved so far.’
Ellie stated that she will continue to nurse Ezra until a ‘natural finish,’ and that she had found nursing to be ‘easy’ and ‘enjoyable,’ despite the difficulties.
In her caption, she concluded: ‘Feel a bit of a tit 😜 sharing my breastfeeding journey, but even if it helps to encourage or empower one person then it’s worth it!’
