Gogglebox watchers were taken aback by Mary Killen’s surprise statements to her husband Giles Wood, as she took it upon herself to defend Waitrose.
Mary and Giles, who go by the moniker ‘Nutty,’ have been on the show since 2015 and have offered plenty of comedy along the way.
The pair, who have been married for almost 30 years and have two adult kids together, stunned viewers on Friday’s programme when Mary referred to her husband as a “b*****d.”
She grew rather furious when watching the TV show Beef, defending the store.
Giles triggered the debate by referring to a character in the play who resembled the folks “tutting in a Waitrose queue.”
‘He’d be taken to that issue desk, which I normally avoid in the middle of Waitrose, where there’s constantly people queuing and tutting,’ he explained.
‘Do you remember that place? Where they express dissatisfaction?’
Mary brutally replied: ‘Oh you’re just such a b*****d.
‘Waitrose is beautifully run, there’s never a queue of people tutting.’
Giles was left playfully inquiring if his wife worked for the restaurant, as viewers expressed their disbelief on social media.
‘I think you’re on a retainer,’ Giles told her, before she quipped back: ‘No, you’re on a retainer for Lidl’.
‘Mary calling Giles a B*****d for complaining about Waitrose bit harsh!’ one person wrote.
‘Mary was very defensive about Waitrose then…’, another penned.
