Gogglebox’s Shaun Malone has spoken about ‘owning’ his ‘struggles’ with his mental health in a candid Instagram post.
The reality star spoke after someone he knew ‘made a dig at him’ and admitted to being ‘hypocritical’ after not opening up in the past.
Shaun, who has appeared on the Channel 4 show with the Malone family since 2014, spoke openly with his followers on his Instagram stories.
‘I’ve realised that all the time I’m saying about men and their mental health and we should be open,’ he wrote.
‘But I’ve realised that I’ve been quite hypocritical, because I’ve struggled with my mental health on and off over the last 10 years and I’ve never been open about it.’
The 25-year-old, who welcomed a child in 2020 with his partner Jade, added: ‘I’ve always felt too embarrassed to talk about it, and yesterday I got a dig made at my mental health by somebody I know, so I thought I’ll just come out and own it.’
He said: ‘What I’m saying is like, fellas, we’re all in this together. Loads of us struggle so, it is what it is.’
The Malone family have been a firm fixture on Gogglebox since they joined the show back in 2014 – although this series they are appearing without fan favourite Tom Jr.
The Malones are a family of six – comprised of dad Tom Sr, mum Julie, and children Lee, Vanessa, Tom Jr, and Shaun. The family also have dogs called Dave, Lucy and Joe.
Dancer Tom sensationally quit Gogglebox in early 2021 – revealing he has ‘new opportunities’ that are knocking.
Tom Jr recently looked back at his time on the Channel 4 programme, revealing what it’s really like for families taking part.
The reality star said that producers of the show provide families with takeaways – while also prohibiting the contributors from drinking alcohol.
Gogglebox continues on Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
