A long-standing Gogglebox star, who has been part of the show for a decade, has decided to leave along with his partner.
In an official statement, it was confirmed that Stephen Webb and Daniel Lustig-Webb have chosen to step away from the Channel 4 program.
‘After an amazing and illustrious tenure on Gogglebox, Stephen and Daniel have determined that the time has come to explore life beyond the couch and depart from the show,’ stated Studio Lambert and Channel 4, the show’s creators.
‘As one of the original Goggleboxers, Stephen has entertained the nation with his witty remarks since the program’s inception in 2013, providing his views on the most significant TV events of the past decade.’
‘We’d like to express our gratitude to him and Daniel for being truly fantastic contributors to the program, and we wish them the best in their future endeavors.’
Stephen initially joined Gogglebox as one of the original cast members in 2013 for season one, alongside his former partner Christopher Steed.
After Christopher’s departure from the series in 2017, Stephen’s mother Pat Webb took his place from seasons 10 to 12.
Daniel has been part of the show alongside Stephen since season 13, starting in 2019.
Stephen and Daniel jointly made a statement about their departure from the show, which they posted on Instagram. It read: ‘After careful consideration, Daniel and I have decided we will not be returning for the new series of Gogglebox.
‘We feel the time is right to move on and explore other opportunities.
‘We would both like to thank Channel 4 and Studio Lambert for letting us be part of this amazing, funny and heartwarming show.’
‘What an incredible 10 years… ❤️,’ wrote Stephen in the caption of his post, while Daniel added: ‘What a journey it’s been. Much love ❤️.’
In addition to their statements, the couple also released a video as a token of appreciation to their fans, ‘just to say thank you for all your love and support over the years.’
‘It really has meant a lot,’ Stephen continued. ‘We just wanted to do this video just to say thank you to you guys.’
Daniel blew a kiss at the camera, and his partner emphasized that if viewers experience ‘withdrawal symptoms,’ then ‘we are available on Netflix.’
Fans were also encouraged to visit their salon for a haircut, as Stephen concluded: ‘It’s been an absolute ride and an absolute pleasure, but don’t forget – Channel 4, 9 o’clock, on a Friday, Gogglebox!’
The new series of Gogglebox launches on Friday at 9 pm on Channel 4.
