Gloria Hunniford revealed magic make-up gave her the confidence to return to work after she was left with a broken eye socket.

In June, the broadcaster, 82, explained that she tripped over a rug in her house which resulted in a serious injury.

‘I had a big one I’m afraid, this time. What I did was I tripped over a rug and I took the fall totally on my face,’ she told her Loose Women co-hosts.

‘I took it all on a very hard wooden floor and it was all on my face. I’ve cracked a bone under my eye, unfortunately.’

The TV personality was scheduled to be on one of the buses which were part of the parade for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebration, but unfortunately had to pull out to give herself time to heal.

Following the horrific ordeal, Gloria said she didn’t leave the house for weeks and her eye was ‘full of blood.’

Appearing on the September cover of Prima magazine, she said: ‘I’ve had nightmares about the impact.

‘I’ll never forget the slap of my face on the ground. I didn’t want to see anyone for a while, I thought I’d terrify the neighbours.

The radio presenter also explained that her friend introduced her to make-up that is used to cover tattoos on film sets.

‘It’s allowed me to get back to work,’ she added.

Which is lucky because I’m not good at taking time off. I’m fortunate that I have a job I truly love, which stimulates me.

Gloria previously thanked the NHS after she was taken to hospital by ambulance to be treated, revealing that they had arrived within 10 minutes.

She added: ‘To be honest I was worried about maybe a clot or something in my brain because a friend of mine had a similar fall and I was very relieved to know that I didn’t.

‘But they were fantastic and they did [scanned] my neck, they did everything that they should have done but were mostly worried about the eye.’

The September issue of Prima is on sale from August 11.
