One of the finest British sitcoms in recent memory, somehow. On Tuesday night, Ghosts lost its well-deserved National Television Award to… Sheldon, the young man.
The Big Bang Theory spin-off is a coming-of-age sitcom that follows its predecessor’s oddest character and is, by all accounts, excellent.
Ghosts is one of the most distinctive and refreshingly funny UK comedies since the heyday of the 1990s, and it is about to end after five seasons, boosting the careers of its extraordinary cast members such as Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie, and Kiell Smith-Bynoe, who was dissatisfied with the NTAs results.
Ghosts faced Young Sheldon, Brassic, and Ted Lasso.
Kiell might have lost to any of the candidates except Young Sheldon.
After the result was announced, he tweeted: ‘Wait what. I thought we’d lose to Ted Lasso not a f**kin spin off.’
Sobbing that they didn’t win ( I would rather it had gone to Ted Lasso!) but we got this….. pic.twitter.com/Yw0cWVnIp5

He then retweeted someone else’s outraged post showing a picture of Young Sheldon and the caption: ‘Attenione pickpocket!!’
Kiell wasn’t the only one who was perplexed by the outcome.
One NTA viewer fumed: ‘GHOSTS AND TED LASSO LOSING THE NTA TO YOUNG SHELDON?!?! WHAT KINDA OF SICK SAD WORLD SO WE LIVE IN.’
So many more echoed the same despair, with another posting: ‘How did Young Sheldon which no one has ever watched beat Ted Lasso and Ghosts?’
The NTAs were a usual exciting night, with This Morning capping off a disastrous year by being booed and losing the Best Daytime award for the first time in 12 years.
Holly Willoughby, on the other hand, didn’t appear to mind as she ate a double cheeseburger in the ride home.
The National Television Awards are available to stream on ITVX.
