Gavin and Stacey’s 2019 Christmas episode re-aired on Christmas Eve and now everyone is asking the same question: When are we getting another episode?
The Barry Island/Billericay collected were back in action for the special, which first aired last year, with some minor tweaks including a removal of Nessa (Ruth Jones) and Bryn’s (Rob Brydon) use of the word f***t in Fairytale of New York.
While some viewers tuned in expecting a new edition of the much-loved BBC sitcom, others were hopeful that there would at least be new information at the end of the episode.
Unfortunately, the episode ended the same as last year – with Nessa down on one knee proposing marriage to on/off love, Smithy (James Corden).
The show cut to black before we heard his answer.
While James and Ruth, who also write the show, have ruled out its return anytime soon, everyone who watched was demanding answers and at least one more episode so we can finally get the answer everyone is craving.
Especially after the heartfelt gesture came after Sonia (Laura Aikman) was seen putting down Smithy in front of the family and his son Neil The Baby (now a 12-year-old), before doing a runner.
With Smithy originally planning to propose to Sonia, would he actually change his mind and finally get with the woman he fathered Neil with, and has the ultimate love/hate relationship with?
Gavin and Stacey fans are dying to know – and are hopeful answers will come soon.
While there may be no new episodes coming any time soon, the cast of the show are at least having a get together – with Mathew Horne (who plays Gavin) and Joanna Page (who plays Stacey) reuniting on radio this Christmas day.
The episode will air from midday until 2pm, and will then become available on BBC Sounds for anyone who might have missed it. Tidy.
They won’t be alone either, with fellow Gavin and Stacey guests including Melanie Walters (who played Stacey’s mum Gwen), Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman (Gavin’s parents Mick and Pam), Steffan Rhodri (Dave Coaches), Robert Wilfort (Stacey’s brother Jason) and Laura Aikman.
James will also be delivering a special message from his home in LA.
Gavin and Stacey is available on BBC iPlayer.
