Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo’s time on the show is coming to an end shortly, which has him worried.
Gaten, who has played Dustin Henderson since the first season began in 2016, was just 14 years old when he originally joined up.
Seven years later, the young actor has revealed why he has mixed feelings about the show’s last season.
Gaten, 20, discussed his nervousness on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
‘It’s bittersweet. There’s an excitement there because we want to wrap it up and see how these characters are finally going to develop one last time and how they are going to finish their journeys, but there is also deep fear,’ he said.
‘Not only has it been amazing, but it’s been pretty great job security.
‘Now it’s back to freelance,’ he jokingly added.
During the conversation, Gaten also discussed the significance of appearing on such a popular series so early in his career.
‘I think it’s interesting to constantly be reminded how much people have resonated with it,’ he said.
‘[It has] been essential to all of the growth I’ve had over my teenage years into my twenties and is redefining aspects of the past decade of my life.
‘The fact that something I’ve been a part of can do that for people- it is still sinking in.’
While Gaten told Metro.co.uk last year that growing up in front of cameras was ‘strange,’ he has learned to consider it as a privilege.
‘I feel like if anybody had to watch videos of themselves when they were 13 they would just run under their bed, but I’ve realised that it’s a blessing,’ he said.
‘Not a lot of people get to look back on documentation of themselves growing up.
‘When I’m older I’m sure I will have learned to giggle at it. And I’ll get to show my kids one day.’
David Harbour, who plays Hawkins police chief Jim Hopper, said earlier this month that the fifth and final season will begin production in June.
Stranger Things is streaming on Netflix.
