Furious First Kill fans threaten to cancel Netflix after Emma Roberts queer teen vampire series is axed: ‘We have to fight’

Emma Roberts’ queer teen vampire series First Kill has been axed by Netflix after just one season, prompting a backlash among fans.

First Kill follows bloodsucker Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) as she prepares to dig her fangs into an innocent human so she can take her place among an elite vampire family.

But her plans go awry when she meets her match in powerful slayer Calliope (Imani Lewis) and get even more complicated when feelings start to develop on both sides.

While Emma, 31, did not star in the romance drama, she is likely to be disappointed there will not be a season 2 as she worked behind-the-scenes as an executive producer.

Other high-profile names were involved in First Kill, which was based on a short story from horror writer VE Schwab, including showrunner Felicia D Henderson, who is known for Gossip Girl and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Netflix insiders have revealed the decision behind the cancellation was due to an imbalance between ‘viewing numbers versus cost’, according to Variety.

First Kill landed on the global streamer on June 10, and scored 58% among critics but 89% with audiences, according to Rotten Tomatoes.

He wrote: ‘To all the First Kill fans; I have nothing but love for every single one of you! Thank you all for taking the show in as your own, seeing you all feel seen made all the hard work and hours worth it til the next project.’

Viewers were quick to share their disspointment over the axe, with one saying it made them want to ‘just cancel Netflix.’

Meanwhile, Emma, whose aunt is Julia Roberts, has a busy ahead with several projects in the works.

They include comedy movie Maybe I Do, which features an all-star cast of Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, Richard Gere and William H Macey.

Fans will also be able to watch the We’re the Millers actor in blockbuster Madame Web, spun from the Spider-verse, alongside Sydney Sweeney, Dakota Johnson and Adam Scott.

In January, Emma split from her partner Garrett Hedlund, 37, after three years together.

The Scream Queen actress and her Tron star boyfriend first began dating in 2019 and welcomed son Rhodes a year later.
