Celebrity Race Across the World’s inaugural season is just around the corner.
Fans fell in love with Race around The World, in which tourists go on a once-in-a-lifetime journey around the globe without the use of phones or aircraft in order to be the first to arrive at the final location and win the grand prize.
Four stars and their families will now face the same challenge as they travel 10,000 kilometres through land and water from Marrakesh, Morocco, to Tromso, Norway.
After being delayed owing to the earthquakes in Morocco, the show will now air on BBC One at 9pm on Wednesday, September 20.
These are the star-studded competitors we will be following on the epic trek from Africa to the Arctic.
Harry Judd
Harry Judd and his mother Emma, stars of McFly, will be among the four teams in the debut season.
Judd, 37, is best known as the drummer for the legendary boyband, known for classics including All About You, Five Colours In Her Hair, Obviously, and The Heart Never Lies.
Speaking about why he wanted to take on the mammoth task, Harry said: ‘‘I never travelled when I was younger. I travelled with the band, but I never properly did backpacking and I always wanted to.
‘I think the same applies for my mum – she always wanted to but started a family when she was 22.’
Alex Beresford
Alex Beresford of Good Morning Britain and his father Noel will also be sprinting to the finish line.
The weather presenter, 47, is arguably most remembered for making headlines in 2021 following a spat with Piers Morgan, who walked off set.
Explaining why he wanted to take on the challenge, Alex, 42, said: ‘I thought it was a fantastic opportunity to do something that we’ve never done before.
‘Neither of us have ever backpacked, so it’s a new experience. And, also, just to see some amazing places!
‘Across continents and across countries, and you’re getting to see everything at ground level, so it’s completely different to just flying over – getting to immerse yourself in different cultures and communities.’
Melanie Blatt
Melanie Blatt of All Saints and her mother Helene will use their expertise jetsetting to stages throughout the world in the hopes of winning the grand prize.
The 48-year-old artist rose to prominence in 1997 as a founding member of All Saints, the female band responsible for popular songs such as Never Ever, I Know Where It’s At, and One Strike.
Mel said she wanted to do the show ‘for the experience, to be out of my comfort zone, to do something that I wouldn’t necessarily choose to do on my own.’
She added: ‘I’m definitely up for challenges and pushing myself… And this is what Mum does all the time!’
Billy Monger
Formula One ace Billy Monger and his sister Bonnie
Billy, 24, is a British racing commentator and former driver who competed in British F4 in 2016 and 2017 until a horrific incident resulted in both of his legs being amputated.
Discussing embarking on the race with his sister, Billy added: ‘We’ve spoken about travelling before, but it would probably be a little bit different to what I imagine this is going to be like – in terms of doing everything on such a budget and staying in hostels and being tight on money for food.
‘With this opportunity, I spoke to Bon about it, and she said it could be quite cool. So, we sat down and watched the previous series and got more and more into it and then decided why not!’
Celebrity Race Across The World begins at 8pm on Wednesday, September 20 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
