So many fandoms were devastated this year (Picture: Netflix)

2022 has been a special year for Netflix originals, however, several fandoms have been left hurt that a fair few of them won’t be returning for another season.

Viewers were sad to learn that shows such as Fate: The Winx Saga and First Kill would not be making a return to the streaming giant

Even The Baby-Sitters Club, which received a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, was axed as we look ahead to 2023.

While we have a lot to look forward to in the new year, saying goodbye to some of these shows hasn’t been easy.

Here’s a list of the great shows that were cancelled way too soon.

Blockbuster

The comedy series – which featured Randall Park and Melissa Fumero – followed the duo as employees at the last Blockbuster still open in America as they try to keep the business open so that they don’t lose their jobs.

It made its debut on the streaming platform in November this year, but failed to enter Netflix’s top 10 in the US

Deadline revealed the show had been canceled after a month and a half of the show being on Netflix.

The Midnight Club

Mike Flanagan’s young adult horror series was given the chop after one season.

Set in a hospice, the show followed eight terminally ill young adults who form ‘the Midnight Club’ and meet up each night to tell each other scary stories.

After premiering on October 7 the series’, which is based on a 1994 novel by Christopher Pike, viewing figures were considered weak, especially as it was released around the same time as the break-out hits Dahmer and The Watcher.

The reaction to the cancellation was mixed from fans with some claiming to be ‘done’ with Netflix while others said it didn’t measure up to Flanagan’s other series’.

The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself

Netflix cancelled the teen fantasy drama which was also known as Half Bad, after just one season.

Despite receiving strong reviews from critics, the streamer couldn’t be tempted to keep the show going.

The news was met with disappointment from fans of the show and fellow writers, with screenwriter Debbie Moon writing: ‘This is an outrage. One of the best things I’ve seen this year.

While The Lazarus Project director Laura Scrivano wrote: Genuinely p****d and really sad for all of you. It deserved much much more.’

The Baby-Sitters Club

Unlike the previous shows mentioned above, the reboot of the hit 90s show was axed after two seasons.

The show gained praise for addressing social issues as the seven teenage girls explored friendships, relationships, personal journeys and important lessons.

It also seemed to resonate with critics as the show achieved 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Confirming the news, creator Rachel Shukert said in a statement: ‘I have wanted to be a part of the world Ann M. Martin created since I was 7 years old, and for two amazing seasons I actually got to be.

‘It was a dream come true.

‘Although I am heartbroken not to be returning to Stoneybrook for 20 more seasons, I am so proud of the incredible show our amazing cast and crew created and the way it brought joy and comfort to so many when they needed it most.’

First Kill

Emma Roberts’ queer teen vampire series was axed after one season after Netflix decided to wrap up the show.

First Kill follows bloodsucker Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) as she prepares to dig her fangs into an innocent human so she can take her place among an elite vampire family.

But her plans go awry when she meets her match in powerful slayer Calliope (Imani Lewis) and get even more complicated when feelings start to develop on both sides.

While Wild Child actress Emma did not star in the romance drama, she served as an executive producer.

Viewers were quick to share their disappointment over the axe, with one saying it made them want to ‘just cancel Netflix.’

Another wrote simply: ‘My heart is broken’

‘You all deserve so much better! you guys did such an impeccable job, everyone loved the show… it makes no sense at all! sending you lots of love, we’ll always be here to support every single one of you,’ a third penned.

A First Kill lover stated: ‘No this is ridiculous we have to fight.’
