Ruth Langsford has responded to talk that she may return to This Morning following Holly Willoughby‘s departure.

The 63-year-old broadcaster and her husband, 64-year-old Eamonn Holmes, headlined the ITV daytime programme on Fridays until they were replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

Holly chose to leave the show after 14 years in October due to a suspected plan to abduct and murder her, and there have been several reports about her successor since then.

The job has been attributed to Josie Gibson, Emma Willis, Cat Deeley, and possibly Holly’s own doppelganger.

Ruth from Loose Women appears to have ruled herself out of a spectacular comeback, but adding that you can ‘never say never’.

‘I think that ship has sailed,’ she told Hello! ‘Listen, never say never. I adore that show and it was a dream to work on it.

‘I worked on it before Eamonn, actually people forget that. I say to him: “I took you to work, don’t forget!” ‘

Ruth stated in October that she was still open to the notion of returning to ‘do a week’ on the sofa.

‘If they asked me, I would certainly consider it. I did a week with Rylan last year and I wasn’t torn because of Eamonn’s situation [turning his back on ITV]. Eamonn has left ITV, it’s done and dusted,’ she told Woman&Home, while making it clear there has been no talks with the broadcaster.

‘He’s got another job, which he loves. Also, I don’t have to ask Eamonn’s permission to do anything, or for him me, so if ITV said, “Would you come and do a week on This Morning?” and if I was free and it was with the right person, I probably would do it.’

From 2006 until 2020, she co-hosted the show with her husband, who now works for GB News, and she is still a member of the ITV family owing to her participation on Loose Women.

She has also achieved her dream job after developing her own fashion collection for QVC, where she leads her own Fashion Edit programme.

Meanwhile, Holly was not the only one to leave the show last year, as Phillip Schofield, 61, announced his resignation after more than 20 years.

He shockingly resigned from ITV as a whole after admitting on This Morning to a ‘unwise but not criminal’ romance with a younger staffer.

Craig Doyle has been filling in on the couch on a regular basis, and he is a favourite to do so.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
