One candidate has already quit the new reality competition series Rise and Fall, after the Grafter participated in a horrific challenge that involved electric shocks.
Greg James hosts the Channel 4 programme in which 16 competitors are separated into two groups: the strong Rulers and the weak Grafters.
While the Elites reside in a lavish penthouse and assign work chores to the Grafters, the Grafters dwell in rudimentary conditions and must execute activities to boost the prize cash.
On tonight’s show, our first six rulers, Rachel, Ramona, Cheryl, Rishika, Prince, and Matt, assumed their positions.
After settling into their penthouse, while the Grafters were provided with jail beds and just soup and bread, the Rulers issued their first command: ‘Grafters, we are the rulers. Our prize fund currently stands at zero, which means you’re going to need to put in the work to build it up. Only a ruler can win the prize fund.
‘So we’re going to need you to put in that work and everything you can to get that going. Work starts tomorrow, and everything that you need, food and uniforms have been provided. Good luck.’
The labour in question consisted of electrical work, but with a twist. The Grafters were required to’repair a broken powerline’ by holding a part of the powerline over their heads for a predetermined amount of time.
The circuit could not be disrupted for more than five seconds, but it was not the only restriction.
‘One more thing,’ Greg added: ‘The powerlines are live’.
After weary arms, plenty of leaps and squeals, and a near-fracas between the Rulers, the total prize money might have reached £15,000, but those in control called a stop to the game at £6,000.
However, it grew to be too much for 45-year-old Ali.
The Essex-based entrepreneur called it quits after the first challenge, saying: ‘I feel like s**t. I want to go home. The lack of decent food, no hot water, it is freezing.
‘That’s what can break a man.’ He then stunned the players as he said is goodbye and said he was ‘going home’.
‘I can’t be a follower. I’m a leader, quite frankly, I don’t know any other way,’ he later said.
Rise and Fall continues on Monday at 10pm on Channel 4.
