First look at Stephen Fry as host of huge game show returning after 27 years

Audiences have been given an early glimpse at Stephen Fry on site as he prepares to host the long-awaited Jeopardy! remake.

The series debuted in 1983 and has gone through four iterations, the most recent of which concluded in 1996.

ITV confirmed earlier this year that it will return, and Stephen, 65, would star in the revival.

The network has now revealed two first-look photographs of Stephen on set, and based on his reactions, he appears to be ready to make the candidates work for the prize money.

Despite the fact that the show has been off the air for over 30 years, the set design seems familiar to viewers, with the channel sticking to the classic game show’s noteworthy title typeface.

It was also reported that the new episodes would premiere in October.

The relaunch will run throughout the day and will consist of 20 60-minute episodes.

In addition, unlike the original structure, the new show will allow players to play one additional round.

Stephen claimed he was a long-time admirer of the show when he was announced as the next presenter, following in the footsteps of Derek Hobson, Chris Donat, Steve Jones, and Paul Ross.

‘In the United States, Jeopardy! is a phenomenon like no other. Whenever I’m in America, I do my damnedest to catch it every weekday,’ he said.

The former Q.I. host continued: ‘The idea of hosting it here in the UK makes me dizzy with delight.

‘Such a dedicated quizzing nation as ours will, I hope, welcome this uniquely beguiling and endlessly rewarding game.’

ITV’s Head of Entertainment, Katie Rawcliffe previously said there was ‘no one better to host this classic game show than Stephen’ as he brought ‘knowledge and entertainment to all of our viewers’.

Jeopardy!, which has aired almost 8,000 episodes since its debut in 1964, is still one of the most-watched game shows on American television.

Instead of answering questions, participants are given general knowledge hints and must identify the person, place, or item depicted.

Once in the finals, participants have the opportunity to win large cash rewards, with some winners earning millions across many Jeopardy! episodes.

Jeopardy! starts on Monday October 23 on ITV1 and ITVX.
