The first look at new Channel 4 series We Are Lady Parts has been revealed, with the musical comedy arriving later this year.

The show follows a Muslim punk band looking to get their careers off the ground, and is created by Doctor Who’s Nida Manzoor.

The programme’s synopsis reads: ‘We Are Lady Parts is an exuberant music comedy following a Muslim female punk band – called Lady Parts – who are on a mission to find a lead guitarist and maybe, just maybe, get a proper gig.’

Nida is known for her work on Doctor Who, Enterprice and Hounslow Diaries. She directed the 2020 Doctor Who episodes Fugitive of the Judoon and Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror.

We Are Lady Parts features a host of new British acting talent. The new image shows stars of the show Lucie Shorthouse, Faith Omole, Anjana Vasan, Juliette Motamed and Sarah Impey.

The show follows Amina Hussain (Anjana Vasan), who is a geeky microbiology PhD student looking for love.

The description reads: ‘Lady Parts’ fierce and enigmatic frontwoman Saira (Sarah Kameela Impey) sees something in Amina that the others can’t see.

‘When Saira discovers Amina fancies Ahsan (Zaqi Ismail), fellow band member and taxi-driving drummer Ayesha’s (Juliette Motamed) dreamboat brother, she uses this as leverage by offering to hook them both up on a date, but only if Amina agrees to join the band.’

We Are Lady Parts also features original punk songs, written and adapted by Nida and her siblings Shez Manzoor, Sanya Manzoor and Benni Fregin.

The six-part comedy series will arrive in the spring on Channel 4 in the UK, and will be available to watch on in the US.
