Gerry Turner has been named the first Golden Bachelor, and we’re instantly smitten.
The 71-year-old retired restaurateur is the first senior person looking for a partner in a spin-off of the very famous chain.
This is ABC’s latest offering, following The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise.
Gerry revealed that he was the first elder participant to emerge into the spotlight in the hunt for love after the death of his wife, Toni, in 2017.
During an interview with Good Morning America, he said that it is’still settling in,’ before previewing what he is looking for in a mate.
‘I would love it if I found a partner who was high energy, someone who maybe plays pickleball, someone that maybe plays golf,’ he told the hosts.
The widower also said that his kids urged him to audition for the show, and that he believes his late wife is rooting for him.
‘I have her picture on a dresser in my closet and every morning I give her the nod,’ he continued.
‘For a while, I was having a hard time figuring out if she would be okay but we always told each other when one of us goes, we want the other one to be happy.
‘She’s up there rooting. She’s saying, “Yeah, Gerry, do this.”’
The Golden Bachelor will premiere later this year, although no specific date has been set.
It will air on ABC and be available on in the United States.
