Donald Trump believes Piers Morgan’s on-air clash with former Good Morning Britain co-star Alex Beresford was a step too far.
The outspoken broadcaster, 57, dramatically stormed out of the GMB studios in March last year, after a fiery debate with Alex over The Sussexes no holds barred interview with Oprah Winfrey.
During the second half of their lengthy Piers Morgan: Uncensored chat, the journalist asked the former commander-in-chief, 75, if he would have reacted in the same way.
‘I thought you overreacted by the way, you made it about him’ Trump replied.
‘I would have left, but I wouldn’t have attacked the weatherman, you know, he wasn’t worth it.’
‘I didn’t attack him, I left the room,’ Piers joked.
‘No, you did, you attacked him. I would’ve handled it differently, but that’s OK,’ Trump retorted.
Justifying his behaviour, Piers recalled how angry he felt watching the shocking tell-all – which premiered in March 2021 – and said: ‘It turns out Meghan Markle writes to my boss at ITV, basically demands my head on a plate.’
Piers later asked Trump whether he would have apologised, and although the 45th US President nodded in agreement, he said he ‘didn’t like the way he handled’ the situation.
In the explosive Oprah interview, an emotional Meghan explained how life as a royal drove her to constant thoughts of suicide.
‘I didn’t know who to reach out to,’ she explained. The Duchess said she asked ‘the institution’ for help, but says they refused to let her have psychiatric treatment.
‘I thought it (suicide) would solve everything for everyone,’ she added.
After Piers made it clear that he didn’t believe a word Meghan said, his comments sparked uproar from mental health charities, and ultimately resulted in his decision to leave GMB.
However, his long-awaited TalkTV debut was celebrated earlier in the week, and according to Broadcast, his debate with Trump peaked with an audience of nearly 400,000.
Piers quickly reacted to the news, sharing: ‘BREAKING NEWS: @PiersUncensored got bigger ratings at 8-9pm last night than BBC News, Sky News and GB News…. COMBINED!!!
‘What a start – thanks for watching!’
Piers Morgan Uncensored airs weeknights at 8pm on TalkTV.
