The Eurovision Song Contest has announced the date for its comeback in 2014, as well as the city that will serve as host.
The long-running competition was held in Liverpool this year, as the UK took over hosting responsibilities from Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, the 2022 winner.
After 26 nations competed in the Northern city, including UK artist Mae Muller, Sweden’s Loreen won the Eurovision, earning her the second person and first woman to be voted winner twice, following Ireland’s Johnny Logan.
The historic triumph of the Tattoo singer guaranteed that Sweden will host the 2024 Eurovision, just in time for Abba’s 50th anniversary.
Many speculated on which city in the Scandinavian country would host, with many expecting it would be Stockholm, the capital.
However, it has already been announced that Malmö will host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2024.
The popular spectacle’s grand final will be place on Saturday, May 11, at the Malmö Arena, following semi-finals on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9.
Malmö was chosen, according to organisers, after a competitive bid process that considered venue facilities, the capacity to accommodate thousands of visiting delegations, personnel, spectators, and media, infrastructure, and other factors.
The tournament will be organised by Swedish broadcaster SVT and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
