Matthew Wright has ripped into Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Priti Patel as he called out the horrific racist abuse that Black England players have been subjected to.
Footballers Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were bombarded with vile racial comments on social media when they missed their penalties during the Euro 2020 final, with Italy eventually winning the tournament.
Following the match, the PM shared his support with the England team and condemned the horrific reaction.
However, Matthew took aim at Mr Johnson for his own past controversial comments, as well as the Home Secretary after she recently stated that England fans had a right to boo the players for taking a knee against racism.
Appearing on today’s This Morning, he didn’t hold back as he told Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford: ‘We’ve had our leaders, Priti Patel [was] asked what does she think about booing the knee, when the players take the knee.
‘Boris Johnson, our own leader, has used racist phraseology in the past in his articles.

‘And then we’re surprised that a significant, small but significant, proportion of fans racially abuse our heroes?
‘I think what we need is strong leadership at a time like this.’
Fans and famous faces have led support for the England players amid the abuse, calling out the racist trolls on social media.
Mr Johnson sparked backlash when he shared his support with the England team on Twitter, with many stating that his response was not enough.
‘This England team deserve to be lauded as heroes, not racially abused on social media,’ he tweeted.
‘Those responsible for this appalling abuse should be ashamed of themselves.’
Unimpressed by the tweet, Susanna Reid tore into the politician on Good Morning Britain, fuming: ‘He sounds like a slightly disappointed parent.
‘I mean for goodness sake, it’s got to be a bit more than “You should be ashamed of yourself”.’
This Morning continues on weekdays, at 10am, on ITV.
