Euphoria season 3: Zendaya hopeful over Rue Bennett’s sobriety following ‘painful’ journey: ‘This can’t be the end of her story’

Euphoria season 2 finale premiered on Sunday night and now Zendaya is looking ahead for what drama awaits Rue Bennett in the third chapter.

The gritty teen programme puts 17-year-old Rue at the centre – a recovering drug addict trying to navigate the complexities of teenage life while dealing with severe mental health issues.

HBO’s boundary-pushing drama has had fans hooked as a firm favourite was killed off in the final installment, and Rue made amends with those she had offended, before vowing to change for the better.

Following her toxic journey into recovery, the Malcolm and Marie actress, 25, expressed she hoped the youngster would find peace in the highly anticipated third season.

When asked if she thought her character would recover, she told Entertainment Tonight: ‘I think that’s what we need. I think that’s what the world needs.

‘I know it was painful for me and I think it got to the point of, “we can’t leave her here.”‘

She added: ‘This can’t be the end of her story. There has to be some hope at the end of this. Something beautiful at the end of all this pain.’

Zendaya, alongside her co-stars Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Angus Cloud, Maude Apatow, and Barbie Ferreira, will delight fans with her season three return, as the show was recently named the most-tweeted show of the decade.

After watching the No Way Home star’s performance in episode five, titled Stand Still Like the Hummingbird, viewers believe another Emmy win is in sight.

One fan tweeted: ‘Literally had chills!! It was so Raw and Realistic! BEST performance I’ve seen in a while @zendaya #Euphoira.’

‘Give Zendaya all the awards right now! What a performance,’ added another.

Euphoria is available to stream on NOW TV and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
