Dick and Angel Strawbridge, stars of Channel 4’s Escape to the Chateau, have greatly grown their wealth after the show’s cancellation.
The pair and their programme were dismissed by the broadcaster and production firm Two Rivers Media after they were placed under investigation for an undisclosed cause.
The investigation was launched in response to various allegations made against Dick, 63, and Angel, 45, by insiders.
According to Deadline, they had disagreements with producers, and another source claimed they were a “nightmare to deal with.”
The same outlet acquired recordings in which Angel is allegedly heard calling a producer a “f***ing c**t” and detailing how “f***ing mad” she was.
Despite the charges and the termination of their TV career with Channel 4, the couple’s income has nearly doubled in the last year.
According to Companies House, their business TShirt Patisserie Limited has seen earnings rise from £270,000 to £688,000.
Meanwhile, the income of their TV production firms Chateau Television and Jera Enterprises increased from £50,000 to £286,000 and £13,500 to £470,500, respectively.
According to the numbers, the firms earned £1.44 million in the previous year, nearly double the £777,000 earned the previous year.
It comes after it was revealed that Dick and Angel had shut down a firm named after the chateau.
The private firm was founded in 2017, but the directors Dick and Angel applied to dissolve it on May 9, this year.
The Chateau’s website, where the couple also resides, warns visitors that they are now working on a backlog of weddings owing to Covid-19 and are not accepting new reservations, while activities such as ‘Chateau Under the Stars’ and ‘Working Garden Day’ are currently unavailable.
On May 26, Dick and Angel addressed the allegations regarding their behaviour for the first time, arguing that there are “two sides to every story.”
They wrote: ‘We know there are lots of stories in the press right now. It’s not worth us even trying to comment or give context, because anything can be made into a good headline. We understand. There are two sides to every story and from the incredible support we have received, most of you know that.’
The pair insisted that the decision to cancel Escape to the Chateau was “a Strawbridge Family choice.”
Later this year, Dick and Angel will also embark on a 33-city theatre tour with their performance Dick and Angel – Forever Home (Avec Le Nitty Gritty).
