Some TV shows have broken records with the amount of Emmy awards they got, but there have also been some big snubs.
On Wednesday night, the nominees for the awards that will be held in September were revealed. Succession, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, and Ted Lasso are among the favourites.
Succession got an amazing 27 nominations after its fourth and final season. Three of the show’s stars, Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, and Kieran Culkin, are all in the running for best actor.
But there have been many shows and stars that didn’t get the recognition they deserved.
Even though both reviews and viewers liked the Bridgerton prequel series Queen Charlotte, it didn’t get nominated in any of the big categories.
It was the same with sister shows Yellowstone and 1923. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, who were in 1923, were also not known.
Other big names in Hollywood, like Steve Martin for Only Murders in the Building, were also left out.
No one from the group of House of the Dragon was mentioned, and Paddy Considine, who played King Viserys I Targaryen, was the most obvious one to leave out.
Here is a list of the snubs that shocked us the most….
Yellowstone and 1923
Fans love Taylor Sheridan’s Western series about the Dutton family so much that Yellowstone was named the most watched TV show of 2022.
Even so, both the show and its spinoff 1923, which starred Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, were totally ignored and didn’t get a single mention.
Kevin Costner was not nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the second year in a row. Since it was recently reported that the upcoming fifth season of Yellowstone will be the show’s last, it seems unlikely that Costner will ever be nominated for an Emmy for his role in the show.
The only time the show was nominated for an Emmy was in 2021 for Outstanding Production Design for a Contemporary Narrative Programme. It didn’t win, though.
Ford’s snub seemed even more shocking because he also didn’t get nominated for a comedy supporting actor award for his part in the show Shrinking. Some people thought he might have been an early favourite to win that award.
Only Murders in the Building stars Steve Martin and Selena Gomez
Martin Short was nominated for the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category for Only Murders in the Building, but his co-stars Steve Martin and Selena Gomez were not.
Martin and Short were both nominated for the same award last year, but neither of them won.
But after two seasons of the show, Gomez still hasn’t been nominated for an Emmy.
But the show is in the running for Best Comedy Series.
House of the Dragon actors
During its eight-season run, Game of Thrones was a favourite of the Emmys. It got a whopping 164 votes, and it won 59 of them. However, after its first season, its spinoff show House of the Dragon was mostly ignored in the major categories.
Even though it got eight nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series, none of its main stars were mentioned. This includes Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, and Olivia Cooke.
Queen Charlotte
During its first season, Bridgerton was nominated for some big awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Rege-Jean Page. However, the prequel series Queen Charlotte didn’t get any nods.
India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest, two of the stars of the Shonda Rhimes limited series, were not nominated for performance awards.
It did, however, get three nominations in the Creative Arts categories: one for Outstanding Period Costumes, one for Outstanding Period Hairstyling, and one for Julie Andrews’ Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance.
Fans of the show made it clear that they were not happy with the snubs by posting about them on social media right away.
‘Queen Charlotte not getting an Emmy nom when its one of the best Netflix shows this year, A-tier acting and one of the most watched too…alright,’ one person posted on Twitter.
‘Queen Charlotte didn’t get any Emmy noms??? This can’t be real,’ someone else wrote.
Another added: ‘I simply cannot believe that Queen Charlotte did not garner ANY Emmy nominations. How is this possible?.’
Elizabeth Olsen
This year, no one thought the crime drama Love & Death would win all of the Emmys, especially since it was about a murderous housewife whose story had been told in last year’s Candy, which starred Jessica Biel.
But people thought that Elizabeth Olsen’s role as Candy Montgomery might make her stand out in an acting area. But that didn’t happen, and she was instead snubbed.
But her co-star Jesse Plemons was nominated in the Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category for his part as Candy’s boyfriend Allan Gore.
The 75th annual Emmy awards will take place on September 18, 2023.
