On Monday night, Kate Garraway, her husband Derek Draper, and their two kids, William and Darcey, attended Elton John’s Farewell tour performance at London’s 02 Arena.
Kate, 55, talked about the emotional moment Elton, 76, dedicated Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me to her family on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain. Video of the amazing event was also shown.
Kate stated that Elton had really pushed her to bring Derek, who Kate has been caring for since since he had a serious case of coronavirus in 2020, along, saying that she, 55-year-old Derek, and their children were left in “floods of tears.”
Speaking on Wednesday morning, Kate explained to GMB viewers: ‘We managed to get Derek to see Elton play, and that was Elton’s goal because he’s been so supportive throughout.
‘So, we went along, we made it happen.’
She added: ‘So that was enough, we were crying from the second we walked in to the 02. Then completely surreally, this happened.’
Footage of Elton on stage this week then popped up on screen, and the world-famous hitmaker told the crowd: ‘The two people that I’m so thrilled that are here, because they’ve been through hell over the last three of four years, are Kate Garraway and Derek and the kids.’
Elton added: ‘To say that they’ve been through a lot is an understatement of huge proportions.
They’ve been inspiring and they’ve never given up. I want to dedicate this song especially to you guys.’
Back in the studio, Kate then shared: ‘I find it hard to listen to that song anyway without crying.
‘We were in tears, the people around us were in tears. It was an amazing convert. Derek’s crying, Billie, Darcy. It was amazing. Derek and Elton met and both of them were in tears.’
