Ellen DeGeneres is preparing to return to television more than three years after claims of a hostile work environment on her talk show arose.
Her daytime talk programme ended quickly after charges were made regarding the backstage climate on the Ellen programme during the early days of the outbreak.
The 65-year-old talk show presenter and voice actress hosted the final episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2021 and has been seldom seen on television since.
But it looks like Ellen is preparing to return to television, but not in the way you may imagine – a wildlife documentary starring Ellen is on the way.
Saving the Gorillas: Ellen’s Next Adventure, a Discovery Channel production, will air as a one-time special episode on September 23.
Ellen’s wife, Arrested Development and Ally McBeal actress Portia De Rossi, was also substantially engaged in the show’s conception.
‘What begins as Portia’s simple desire to come up with a nice birthday gift for [Ellen] snowballs into something bigger than anybody could have imagined.’
The synopsis continues: ‘The couple find themselves embarking on one of the largest architectural and landscaping projects in the history of Rwanda.’
However, during the creation of the documentary, Ellen and Portia had to contend with challenges such as ‘volcanoes, earthquakes, and a global pandemic’.
The one-off special will finish with ‘their family and friends celebrating the opening of The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund’.
The facility, which opened in 2022, has aided in gorilla conservation while also attracting tourists of all ages, both locally and abroad.
‘It is an adventure filled with laughter, tears, and experiences none of them ever dreamed they’d have,’ with Ellen said to be ‘at the centre’ of the story.
At the time of the accusations, Ellen admitted: ‘I get sad. I get mad. I get anxious. I get frustrated. I get impatient. And I am working on all of that.’
Ellen married American-Australian actress Portia in 2008 after three years of dating; Portia later resigned from performing in 2018.
