Educating Greater Manchester introduced viewers to a pupil who was scared of laughing over fears she’d wet herself due to her disability in scenes that aired tonight.
Harrop Fold School student Holly bravely opened up about her giggle incontinence as she prepared to give a speech to her year group in a bid to become head girl, revealing that her nerves might lead to an accident.
‘I have struggles with certain things in my life like I can’t run and I can’t do certain things without it causing me a lot of pain or panic,’ Holly shared. ‘I have muscle spasm things.’
She continued: ‘My giggle incontinence is more of my main conditions, it’s the one I fear the most.
‘If you were to take a piece of paper and write the word laughter in the middle of it and you had to write the first thing that came to mind, you would say it’s something I enjoy or something I want to do a lot of the time.
‘And for me, I’m the complete opposite. It’s one of the biggest fears for me.’
Holly added: ‘People don’t understand why until they know what happens. I basically wet myself. It’s not pleasant at all when it happens. And in my life, I have to deal with it when it happens.’
Holly revealed she was ridiculed at her previous school over her disability. However, the pupils at her new school have been much better understanding, so much so, she wants to give back to them by being made head girl.
At the end of the episode, Holly managed to overcome her fears of public speaking and delivered an empowering speech to her peers.
Viewers were impressed by Holly’s efforts and showered her with praise on social media.
‘Bless Holly- how awful to be scared of laughing – a brave young lady,’ one wrote.
Echoing a similar sentiment, another penned: ‘Oh Holly you have no idea how amazing you are.’
Audiences will have to tune in tomorrow to see whether or not Holly managed to secure the head girl vacancy.
