After This Morning was booed at the National Television Awards, Eamonn Holmes took aim at the show.
The NTAs featured lots of thrilling moments on Tuesday night, but there were also some unpleasant ones, with certain programmes and presenters being ridiculed by the audience gathering at the O2 Arena.
When the candidates for Best Daytime Show were read out, one such instance occurred.
When This Morning was announced, the crowd threw out an audible boo, and the camera flashed to hosts Holly Willoughby, 42, and Alison Hammond, 48, but they didn’t respond, instead smiling and clapping.
However, the next morning, Eamonn did not pass up the opportunity to comment on what had transpired.
The 63-year-old made fun of his previous employer on his GB News show, Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel.
‘Apparently the audience was just chanting, “Bring back Eamonn!”,’ he remarked of the moment.
The quip elicited chuckles from the group before he took another sly jab at This Morning.
The award for best daytime show went to The Repair Shop, which the judges appeared to like much.
Guest Scarlett Mccgwire said: ‘Apparently the This Morning people were devastated because, god forbid, that there could be a better programme that actually won it.
‘I hear, I don’t watch it either, but I do hear that The Repair Shop is terribly good.’
Eamonn then put his two cents in and pointed out: ‘What surprised me was I would never consider The Repair Shop as a daytime programme.
‘Loose Women is a daytime programme engrained in the schedule or whatever.’
Eamonn went on to describe the Jay Blades-led spectacle as ‘amazing’ before returning his focus to Holly and commenting on her attire and the way she posed in it.
‘Here’s a pose that – I thought, if someone says to me, “Eamonn, can we have a picture?” and you’re on a red carpet, you smile, you look awkward, whatever it is,’ he said.
On the red carpet, while holding a newspaper with Willoughby, he said, ‘Holly Willoughby’s bum.’
‘The pictures are all of her but what she does is (say), “You want a picture?” And then turns her backside around to the camera.
‘Is that a particular pose?’ he asked to which Isabel chipped in: ‘She’s obviously got a very expensive couture gown and showing the very neat tailoring of the fishtail and it emphasises her curves of which she’s very proud.’
‘I’m doing that in the future,’ he jumped back in.
‘I’m saying, “A picture? Have a look at this!”.’
Eamonn co-presented This Morning with wife Ruth Langsford from 2006 until 2021.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1. The National Television Awards is streaming on ITVX.
