Eamonn Holmes made another swipe at This Morning as he talked about his new position at GB News and whether he misses working on the daytime ITV programme.
The presenter, who quit This Morning along with his wife Ruth Langsford in November after 15 years, has not held back while discussing his old show in recent weeks, only last month claiming the broadcaster made it look like he walked away.
Joining Steph McGovern on Monday’s Steph’s Packed Lunch, Eamonn admitted that it was ‘nice to be appreciated’ in his new role.
‘I really am excited with the whole breaking news environment and being involved in that… It’s a tremendous privilege to be involved in something you want to do,’ Eamonn said of GB News.
‘They say if you do something you love you never work a day in your life and it’s nice to be appreciated, it’s nice to be with people who want you to be there and it’s nice to feel you’re contributing.’
Eamonn went on to say that he hasn’t ruled out working with his wife Ruth again in the future.
‘We’d be open to it, although Ruth is very busy with her designing range on QVC, she’s got her other job on Loose Women, we’re very busy,’ he told the programme.
‘Who knows but I think we’d be open to suggestions, yes.’
Eamonn has frequently spoken out about his departure from This Morning.
Last month, he accused his former bosses at ITV of being ‘sly’ when organising his exit from the channel.
The GB News presenter said the channel had not wanted to announce his departure due to its effects on viewing figures so had made it look like the decision had been his.
‘I’m all for TV companies being able to choose who works for them, but it would be nice if you were told why you were going,’ he told the Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine.
‘They’re sly. They didn’t want to announce that I’d been dropped because it would adversely affect audience figures, so they made it look as if I’d walked away from them rather than the other way round.
‘They had a chat with my agent and announced that I was going to GB News when they’d done no more than ask if I’d be interested in joining them.
‘I’m not going to have myself derided as some sort of has-been. I may be male and pale but I’m still at the top of my game.’
Following news of his exit from ITV, the channel said: ‘We would like to wish Eamonn all of the very best in his new role.
‘As a duo, Eamonn and Ruth have been part of the This Morning presenting team for the last 15 years and we thank Eamonn for all of his hard work and contribution to the show.’
