A popular TV show hosted by Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford has been discontinued. Eamonn & Ruth: How the Other Half Lives premiered in 2015 and followed the pair as they journeyed around the world meeting with the ultra-wealthy and seeing what it’s like to live a life of luxury.
Throughout the five seasons, they journeyed to Dubai, New York, Monte Carlo, Vegas, and Lake Como in Italy.
However, after the last season aired in 2019, the programme has been cancelled due to the pandemic and continued cost-of-living problem.
‘Sadly, the series fell victim to the pandemic – it was just impossible to get across the world to meet very rich people – and there are no plans to revive the series now,’ Eamonn said when announcing the news.
‘But I do feel privileged to have been a part of it and to have met people in parts of the world that are no longer accessible.
‘We got to spend time with some extraordinary people, including a billionaire and his wife in Ukraine and some of the richest people in Moscow,’ he added when speaking to The Sun.
Eamonn and Ruth, both 63, took part in activities such as enjoying the world’s most expensive cocktail, visiting a £20 million Regents Park flat in London, and shooting clay pigeons with a £100,000 hand-engraved shotgun.
At one point, Eamonn was even given the opportunity to ride on the private plane of a Russian billionaire.
In 2016, they were granted £1 million to spend throughout the holiday season in a programme titled A Million Pound Christmas.
Ruth highlighted how they were startled to discover the heights of riches some people possessed while beginning the series.
‘We always thought we were doing alright then you see this wealth beyond your wildest dreams,’ she said.
‘I set out to do this show thinking I wouldn’t like the people very much, thinking they’re going to be arrogant, and they really weren’t. A lot of them are self-made people.’
Her husband added: ‘The fascination is how they made their money, how they spend it, and why when they get the money they don’t just stop working.’
In one famous episode, Eamonn became overly excited about being allowed to try some of the world’s most costly wines.
While he did characterise one as tasting like “urine,” the wine rapidly got to his head, and Ruth had to step in and call it quits after admitting Eamonn was a “terrible lightweight.”
