Drew Barrymore has first-ever perimenopausal hot flush live on air with Jennifer Aniston

Drew Barrymore is renowned for getting up up and personal with her guests on her talk show, but she was taken aback when she had her first heat flush while interviewing Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler.

In 2020, the former child star debuted her own talk show, with recent guests including Jane Fonda, Keira Knightley, and her old Charlie’s Angels co-star Lucy Liu.

Drew, 48, had to take a little break while speaking with Jennifer and Adam about their upcoming film Murder Mystery 2.

Drew was peering down the camera after sliding her chair closer to her visitors and began saying, “I’m so hot!”

‘I think I’m having my first perimenopause hot flush,’ she said.

She removed her jacket and began fanning herself as Jennifer adjusted Drew’s microphone.

‘I feel so honoured,’ Jennifer joked of being there to witness the moment.

Drew apologised as she continued to attempt to calm down, saying she was’so sorry’ and ‘do you feel this?’ as she tapped her chest.

‘Or maybe I’m just that excited [to speak to you],’ she told her guests.

Adam reached out and clasped her hand, saying it was really warm.

‘That’s good because if it was cold, that would be worrisome,’ Drew said.

She added: ‘Anyhow I’m so glad I have this moment documented.’

Adam, doing his best to provide guidance in the circumstances, quipped that the flush was supposed to come with a’very hefty, like fury, a mood flip’.

‘Maybe you can bring it out soon. There it is!’ he said as Drew made a face at him, before they all started laughing.

Drew is known for being quite candid about her personal life on her talk show, and she said last year that she hadn’t been in a ‘intimate relationship’ since her marriage ended in 2016.

The actress and TV host, who has daughters Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8, with her ex-husband Will Kopelman, claimed she was instead concentrating on “actually working on myself.”

She went on to say that she wouldn’t rule out getting back into a relationship in the future, but it wasn’t a ‘priority’ just now.

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on CBS in the US.

What is perimenopause?

Perimenopause occurs when you have symptoms before your periods have stopped.

You reach menopause when you have not had a period for 12 months.

According to the NHS, symptoms can include anxiety, mood swings, brain fog, hot flushes and irregular periods. These symptoms can start years before your periods stop and carry on afterwards.

Menopause usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55.
