Strictly Come Dancing 2021 has been doing more and more to make itself inclusive to the Deaf community recently, and now Dr Ranj Singh has revealed that he was subtly using sign language on the show back in 2018.

Rose Ayling-Ellis has become the first Deaf contestant in the show’s history, with head judges Shirley Ballas recently saying that contestants are banned from clapping during her performances to help her detect vibrations on the dancefloor.

This Morning star Dr Ranj congratulated Rose for her performances so far, and thanked her for making the show more inclusive – as he tried to do back in series 16.

‘Myself and my partner @JManrara started signing on @bbcstrictly as a way of making deaf/HOH people feel a little more included,’ he wrote on Twitter.

The 42-year-old also posted a clip of him and professional partner Janette Manrara signing for the camera.

‘I’m so glad it has continued – and @RoseAylingEllis is a superstar!’ he added.

Dr Ranj finished in 10th place on Strictly in the series which was eventually won by Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton.

This year, Rose and dance partner Giovanni Pernice have emerged as the most impressive couple, after landing the first perfect 40 of the series – and in record time, too.

The pair earned four 10s from judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley and Anton Du Beke, marking the earliest time a couple has ever achieved a perfect score on the BBC One series.

During their performance in week five, Rose and Giovanni were also praised for their powerful Viennese Waltz, which incorporated sign language into the choreography.

Rose was left floored when she found out how much searches for sign language surged after her stunning performance.

She’s gained a celebrity following too after Ed Sheeran tipped the actress to win this year’s series

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One.
