The trailer for Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary has here, and it does not disappoint.
When it was revealed that David Tennant and Catherine Tate would be returning for three special episodes this year, fans went insane with joy, joined by Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney as Donna Noble’s daughter, Rose Temple Noble, Neil Patrick Harris as a sinister new villain, and Miriam Margolyes as a ridiculously cute alien creature.
This comes ahead of the fresh new season featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the next Doctor, with new companion Ruby Sunday, portrayed by soap actress Millie Gibson.
Russell T Davies, the man who resurrected Doctor Who with the revamped series in 2005, is back in charge, dazzling fans young and old with the most exciting series in recent memory.
After more than a year of teasing, we finally got our first full-length look at what’s to come on Saturday.
Donna begins the trailer remembering things she shouldn’t since her memory was erased to preserve her life when we last saw her.
‘I lie in bed thinking, what have I lost?’ she asks.
But it’s evident she regains her memories as she rants about the Tardis, threatens to get aggressive, and appears to be as feisty as ever, forcing the Doctor to keep up with her.
The couple even share an embrace, indicating that fans will have their Doctor-Donna back.
But there’s a catch: the Doctor acknowledges he’s not sure he’ll be able to save her life again this time…
In the new trailer, London is on fire, and Unit becomes engaged with Kate Stewart’s homecoming.
Meanwhile, the 10th Doctor receives a smack from Donna’s mother; otherwise, it wouldn’t be the same.
Donna gets into more difficulty when she appears to vanish in the Tardis, with Rose desperately searching for her mother – and Neil Patrick Harris’ actual identity is revealed, as fans have long suspected, as the Toymaker – one of the original series’ most dangerous villains.
As if all of this excitement wasn’t enough, we received another look at the impending Doctor Ncuti – it’s all too much to bear!
We won’t have to wait long to return to the universe of Doctor Who, with special episodes premiering in November and the next series premiering in spring 2024.
‘The titles are only the beginning of the Doctor’s biggest adventure yet,’ showrunner Russell said of the sci-fi show’s return in November 2023.
‘Autumn is coming, with three hours of danger, Donna and disaster about to be unleashed!’
Doctor Who returns this November with three 60th Anniversary specials on BBC.
