Dick and Angel Strawbridge were fired by Channel 4 after a probe into their behaviour, and they are now winding down a firm named after the chateau.
Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson Limited is owned by the couple, and public documents on Companies House reveal that they have an active proposal to strike off the company.
The private business was founded in 2017, but the directors – Dick, 63, and Angel, 45 – applied to liquidate it on May 9, this year.
On May 23, they got a notification in return informing them that it will be dissolved within two months unless ’cause is demonstrated to the contrary.’
The Chateau, where the couple also resides, warns guests that they are presently working on a backlog of weddings owing to Covid-19 and are not accepting new appointments. While certain events, such as “Chateau Under the Stars” and “Working Garden Day,” are now unavailable.
The descriptions read: ‘Unfortunately our events at The Chateau are currently unavailable whilst we play catch-up! Keep checking back for more details.’
The duo purchased the run-down 45-room chateau in France’s Pays de la Loire area for £280,000 in 2015 and converted it into an elite wedding venue worth £2 million.
The restorations, as well as regular family life, were featured in their Channel 4 programme Escape to the Chateau.
The show was cancelled last month after Channel 4 demanded an independent probe into their behaviour.
A spokesperson for the channel said: ‘Following a review, we have taken the decision not to work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future.’
Production company Two Rivers Media also added: ‘We can confirm that we will no longer work with Dick and Angel and cannot comment further at the moment.’
This comes after three of Dick and Angel’s former colleagues claimed to Deadline that they clashed with producers, while a further source alleged they were a ‘nightmare to work with.’
A source said: ‘There has been a deteriorating relationship between Two Rivers and Dick and Angel’s Chateau TV for various reasons and it all came to a head.’
‘Producers turn them into this perfect, brilliant, funny couple. They’re that on camera, but that’s about it,’ another source added. However, one producer described them as ‘warm and welcoming.’
‘[They are] just spiky and volatile people,’ an insider added to Mail Online.
In 2021, insiders from Escape To The Chateau’s previous production firm, Spark Media, told The Times that Dick and Angel were ‘abusive and aggressive’ and that filming had become a ‘anxiety-inducing experience.’
The pair stated on Instagram that ‘there are two sides to every story,’ and that the decision to end the programme was made by the Strawbridge family “early last year.”
