Denise Welch is preparing to play Queen Elizabeth II on stage, and fans are overjoyed.

The Loose Women host, 65, will play the late royal for one night only on December 4 at the Eventim Apollo in London as part of the forthcoming musical Diana: The Musical.

The musical, set in 1996, will see a recently divorced Diana, played by Kerry Ellis, reflect on her past as she remembers her 19-year-old self (Maiya Quansah-Breed), who captured the country.

The bill teases, “The glittering and sad life of Princess Diana takes central stage in this unique musical by creators David Bryan and Joe DiPietro.”

Denise is following in the footsteps of industry heavyweights Dame Helen Mirren and Olivia Colamn, both of whom have previously played Queen Elizabeth II in high-profile movies.

Dame Helen dominated the awards season with her performance in The Queen, taking her both an Oscar and a Bafta.

Meanwhile, Olivia got a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix’s The Crown.

Fans are already going wild for Denise’s upcoming stage performance, with one exclaiming: ‘QUEEN DENISE WELCH PLAYING ACTUAL QUEEN ELIZABETH IN A MUSICAL OMG SLAY!!’

‘Denise Welch playing the Queen in the Diana musical is actually brilliant,’ another raved.

A third simply said: ‘Omg utterly obsessed with this.’

Denise said last month that she is taking a break from Loose Women to go on a ‘little trip’ with her husband Lincoln Townley.

It comes amid speculations that she has been cast in the latest season of Hunted.

‘I’m going out on a little trip for a couple of weeks so I’m going to be off here and off my phone,’ she said in a video posted to her Instagram page.

‘I don’t quite know how I’m going to cope, but I’m going to give it a try, so don’t think I have disappeared.

‘It’s just a temporary little holiday and I’ll be back soon, so lots and lots of love.’
