Death in Paradise boss reveals Ben Miller’s return to season 10 is ‘impactful’

Death in Paradise boss Tim Key has revealed that Ben Miller’s return to season 10 is ‘impactful’.

Ben, who played DI Richard Poole in the BBC police drama, left the series after his character got murdered by one of his former university friends.

The detective met his horrific ending after being killed with an ice pick, although, in true Richard fashion, he even helped his former colleagues to solve his own murder.

BBC One and production company Red Planet Pictures confirmed the exciting news that Ben would be returning as Richard for a cameo appearance during the 10th-anniversary series.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press about Ben’s return, Tim began: ‘There’s not a lot I can say about that as to say anything would be to spoil it.

‘I’m so happy that he said yes and I’m so happy we made it work because schedules were very difficult.’

‘I think if you watched the show at the start, you’ll be very pleased,’ he added.

‘It’s a cameo but it’s incredibly impactful and I’m really happy with it.’

Talking to Metro.co.uk last year about the reason behind his exit, Ben said: ‘The Death In Paradise cast turnover is so high.

‘It has been amazing for me personally, but when it came out it got battered, it had the worst reviews of anything that I have ever been in.

‘I wasn’t sad to leave, it was a great ride and I felt like it was a good time to leave. I was proud to have launched it and it’s amazing because it’s now all over the world.

‘It is a comedy on some levels and that’s the reason it got such bad reviews from critics.’

Death in Paradise airs tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
