Sir David Jason is open to revisiting his most famous role, after saying he wants to play Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses again.
The actor first donned the sheepskin coat and flat cap 40 years ago, going on to become one of the most loved comedy characters of all time.
Now, the 81-year-old has said he’d love to play the character again.
Sir David told The Sun: ‘I’ve always loved Del Boy, who is such a wonderful loser. I would love to revisit him, I need someone to write me a script.’
‘As a show it’s very important we don’t forget about it, it has a huge following, it fills in that need for an awful lot of people.’
The creator of the series John Sullivan died in 2011 at the age of 64. Some of his previously unused material was used in a sketch for Comic Relief starring David Beckham called Beckham In Peckham.
The classic sitcom also starred the likes of Nicholas Lyndhurst, Roger Lloyd Pack and Buster Merryfield and ran from 1981 to 1991.
Sir David recently paid tribute to one of his close friends from the Only Fools and Horses cast, John Challis, who starred as second-hand car dealer Boycie in the show. He died at the age of 79 in 2021.
The actor said in a statement: ‘It is with much sadness to hear that John Challis, a dear friend, has passed away.
‘He was a wonderful actor, a Gentleman in the true sense of the word and I know he will be missed by so many. We had known each other for well over 40 years when he appeared in the second episode of Only Fools and Horses as Boycie.’
Meanwhile, Sir David also spoke about another of his shows, The Darling Buds of May. He revealed how he feels about the reboot The Larkins, admitting that he doesn’t think it’s ‘as good as the original’.
Only Fools and Horses is available to watch on BritBox.
